Exploring Gate 32 in Human Design: The Gate of Continuity

Prepare the soil and plant the seeds of your dreams, continuously caring for them with endurance as they grow.

This is the energy of Gate 32, the Gate of Continuity in Human Design, the Gate of Endurance in Quantum Human Design™, Duration in the I-Ching, and in the Gene Keys it is the shadow of Failure, the gift of Preservation, and the siddhi of Veneration. 

Gate 32 carries with it the ability to cultivate the seed of a dream, prepare the foundation for it to grow and patiently wait until it is time for it to rise up and grow. It is a powerful gate that at its core has the ability to truly transform us through embracing its gifts and navigating it’s shadows.

This is one of the 64 Gates in the landscape of the Human Design system where each Gate in the chart serves a unique role, influencing our traits, behaviors, and interactions with the world. Knowing the full story of Gates can provide powerful guidance for personal growth and self-discovery.

The position of the Planets at the moment of your birth determines whether a Gate is defined (colored in) or undefined (not colored in) in your Chart. ⁠

If a Planet was in a Gate when you were born, you will have that Gate defined. Having a Gate defined means this is an energy you experience consistently as a theme that is part of your life curriculum.

If a Gate is undefined you will still experience the themes of a Gate but it will often be in relationship with others or when a Planet is transiting this gate (as Planetary transits activate the energy of a Gate within all of our charts).

Embracing the Gifts

Located in the Spleen Center, Gate 32 is a highly intuitive gate that instinctively knows what needs to be done to make a dream a manifested reality when the time arrives. As said in the movie Field of Dreams, “If you build it, they will come”.

Know what needs to be done… Those with Gate 32 instinctively sense and know what needs to be prepared to make a dream manifest. You patiently lay the ground for the realization of something that you sense is waiting to come into the world so that when the pulse of divine timing arrives you can move forward with ease.  

Sense what isn’t working… The spleen gates can instinctively sense what is “healthy” or not for us making those with Gate 32 adept at knowing what will work AND knowing what you need to weed out so the ground can be cleared for the new seeds you are planting. 

Capacity for Transformation… Individuals with Gate 32 in their chart have a remarkable ability to navigate through life’s transitions and transformations with endurance. They can continue through periods of uncertainty, knowing that change is necessary for growth. 

Emotional Resilience… The seeds you plant may not always bloom the way you anticipated and Gate 32 equips people with the emotional strength to withstand life’s ups and downs. We must embrace change to grow. You have an instinctive sense of what does and does not work so that you can change what is not working and keep what does. 




Navigating the Shadows

Gate 32 is located in the spleen which is the center associated with fears. Knowing our shadows helps us see where we get stuck so that when we end up there, we can pull back and say, “Oh I see you shadow and I know what I need to do now to step towards my gifts instead…” and then you begin to move again.

Fear of Failure… All of the gates in the Spleen Center have a fear associated with them and the fear of failure lives in Gate 32. This is the fear that either keeps you from taking action to move forward with your dreams OR causes you to push forward before it’s time because you are afraid you’ll miss your opportunity.

Finances over Faith… Gate 32 is is part of the Tribal Economic Circuitry meaning people with this energy feel a deep commitment to caring for their tribe specifically as it relates to providing material resources (aka money, food, clothing, housing, etc). Sometimes they can be so focused on needing money that they forget that money is an energy that will flow to us when we do what is aligned for us.

Lack of Patience… Endurance requires us to learn to trust in divine timing and be patient but for those with Gate 32 it can sometimes be a challenge. The trick is to know that not all seeds will bloom but when you prepare the path for your dreams, the time will arrive and you will feel the pulse of action pushing you forward.

Resistance to Change… Even though Gate 32 is all about the pulse of transformation, individuals might initially resist change due to fear of the unknown or discomfort with the process of transition, potentially missing out on valuable opportunities. Know that if you feel the energy pulling you forward to realize a big idea, that change is here for you and all you need to do is trust it and move forward.

Emotional Overwhelm… The same emotional resilience that allows those with Gate 32 to endure can also lead to emotional overwhelm if they don’t practice regular self-care and boundary-setting, as they may take on too much in an effort to prove their endurance. Remember just because you can see what needs to be done to make a dream a reality does not mean you have to do it for every dream. Follow your strategy and Authority to determine what is meant for you. 




Finding Balance

I have a personal relationship with Gate 32 as it is in both placements for my North Node. In Human Design all celestial bodies have a theme and the North Node is the life theme that we are moving towards after our Uranus Opposition (around 38-42 years old). 

And let me tell you Gate 32 showed up like a thunderclap shortly after I turned 42.  You see I had spent the previous 10+ years building a brand and I felt the not so subtle nudge from within that I was actually meant to close my company and embark on a new voyage. 

But I didn’t know exactly what that voyage was. 

I just knew there was a spark pulling me forward and I had to follow the energy, trusting all would reveal itself.



In the following years I started to be drawn deeper and deeper into spirituality, self exploration and healing finally ending up at the doorstep of Human Design. When I found Human Design in 2020, it was as if a spark ignited and I suddenly knew what my path was.

I found what had been waiting for me in the darkness to bloom into my next evolution.

I started to study and go deeper and deeper. I knew that this was the path, but I did not know how it was going to be built.



I also found fears rising of not being successful and specifically not making money as I dismantled my old company, Baby Jives Co, to clerk the path for this new direction that I knew in my gut was the path for me. But the fear rose regardless.

To be completely honest, I often struggle with the fear that I will fail and that I will not make enough money to support myself and my family and all those who need me. 

That is the deep buried fear that lives in the fear of failure. 

It is a failure to be able to support yourself and your tribe. 



Specifically financially support yourself because as Richard Rudd relates the shadow of Gate 32 is Failure. “Your individual fear of failure is rooted in the collective fear of failure to survive as a species.” and “ Our collective fear of survival is almost entirely projected onto the amount of money we have. The fear of failure as a feeling inside your physical body is intimately linked with money. The 32nd Shadow drives our modern society and keeps humans operating at a low level of frequency by means of this fear.”

And I would wager that every one of us knows what that fear feels like. It is visceral and it is often what keeps us from following the path of our heart to follow the path of security instead.

But here is the secret… when you follow the path of your heart, the universe supports you. 

“When you surrender to the greater pattern and raise your consciousness above the fear threshold, money always arrives just when it is needed. Money actually provides a wonderful lesson in letting go of fear, and in many respects it has become one of the new spiritual teachers on this planet.” - The Gene Keys: Embracing Your Higher Purpose by Richard Rudd



Can I get an AMEN? 

How many times has money taught you a lesson of letting go? 

Where might you be holding so tightly to supposed security that you forget that you are always supported when you follow the path for you? 

Because the gift of Gate 32 is knowing what you need to weed out of your life and what you need to nurture to build what you are here to build… for you, for your tribe, for us all. 

 And sometimes that includes risking letting go.

So you can then follow your instinctive knowing for what is needed next: sign up for the classes, build the website, figure out who you are serving…. Plant and tend your seeds with endurance. 

When it is ready to bloom, it will.

Whether Gate 32 is defined or undefined in your chart I invite you to contemplate the following to deepen your understanding of how this energy shows up in your life and what you might do to further activate it.

  • Do you have a dream that you want to bring into the world? What needs to be done to prepare for your dream? 

  • Do you trust that when it’s time for an idea to come into being you’ll be ready? Or are you trying to force yourself before it’s time? 

  • What can you do to cultivate patience as you wait?

  • Do you have a fear of failing that is causes you to over prepare or not prepare at all, giving up on your dream? Or is your fear of failing causing you to try to push something into form before it is time? 

  • Is a fear of failing to have enough material resources (aka money, food, etc) to support your family and those you care for keeping you from following a dream you have? 

  • Think back to something you have dreamed of bringing into the world, how did it feel in your body? What did you do to prepare for it? How did you know when it was time to act on it? How did it feel to bring it into the world? 



To Inspire

When I sat in contemplation of Gate 32 these words dropped in, a reminder of the power within this gate.


Prepare the soil and plant the seeds for your dreams,

Tending them with endurance as they grow.


Do not let the fear of failure hold you back

Or cause you to force your seeds impatiently. 


The tender sprouts meant to emerge 

and nurtured with trust will rise 

to bloom when the time is right.
